Let’s get Cooking: Fun Summer Recipes for the Whole Family

Step into the kitchen with your child and try out some of these fun and healthy summer recipes!  

Sometimes, the best thing about meal times is what happens before you sit to eat. That is cooking together! Cooking meals and snacks together with young children provides a wonderful opportunity to bond and build strong relationships with one another. It is a time to communicate, collaborate, work together, share stories, laugh, and make memories that will last a lifetime.  

Strawberry-Chocolate Greek Yogurt Bark

Ingredients:  
  • 3 C Whole Milk Plain Greek Yogurt  
  • ¼ C pure maple syrup or honey 
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract 
  • 1 ½ C sliced strawberries  
  • ¼ C mini chocolate chips 
Directions:  
  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.  
  2. Measure out yogurt, syrup or honey, and vanilla and mix together in a medium bowl.  
  3. Spread mixture onto baking sheet.  
  4. Lay sliced strawberries on top.  
  5. Sprinkle with mini chocolate chips.  
  6. Freeze until firm (at least 3 hours).  
  7. Cut or break into bitesize pieces. 
  8. Enjoy!  

Ants on a Log 

Ingredients:  

  • Celery sticks (cut to desired size)  
  • 1 tbsp peanut butter of choice  
  • Raisins  

 

Directions:  

  1. Cut celery sticks to desired size, about 4 inches each.  
  2. Spread peanut butter (or substitute) on each stick.  
  3. Top with raisins.  
  4. Enjoy!  

Veggie Cups 

Ingredients:

  • Fresh veggies of choice  
  • Hummus (or desired dip) 
  • Plastic cups  

 

Directions:  

  1. Wash and slice fresh veggies.  
  2. Place dip of choice into the bottom of plastic cups.  
  3. Fill cup with fresh cut veggies.  
  4. Find a warm, sunny spot outside to enjoy together!  

Strawberry-Peach Fruitsicles

Ingredients:  

  • 3 C fresh strawberries, pureed to 1 ½ C 
  • 3 C peaches (peeled, sliced), pureed to 1 ½ C 
  • 6 tbsp honey 
  • 2/3 C vanilla Greek yogurt  

 

Directions:  

  1. Blend strawberries with 4 tbsp of honey and set aside in bowl.  
  2. Blend peaches with 2 tbsp of honey and set aside in another bowl. 
  3. Using popsicle molds, begin to layer as follows:  
  4. 2 tsp strawberry puree 
  5. 1 tsp yogurt 
  6. 2 tsp peach puree  
  7. Repeat, making fruit puree your last layer. 
  8. Put molds together as directed by the product.  
  9. Place into freezer for at least 6 hours or overnight.  
  10. Head outside on a warm, sunny day and enjoy a cold treat together!
